President of Supreme Federal Court receives delegation from Singapore

Chief Justice Joaquim Barbosa granted a hearing to Minister K. Shanmugam, Minister of Foreign Relations and Minister of Justice of Singapore. During the visit, they spoke about the judicial organization of their countries and about the inauguration, which occurred on 04/05/2013, from the Embassy of Singapore in Brazil, the first Embassy from that country in Latin America.

Upon talking about the specificities of the judicial systems from Brazil and Singapore, the Chief Justice and Minister K. Shanmugam commented on the repercussions of the implementation of TV Justiça on Brazilian everyday life and about lawsuits that, recently analyzed by the Supreme Federal Court, involved discussions of human rights.

The current hearing was preceded by a visit on February of the current year by the Chargé d’affaires of Singapore’s Embassy in Brasília, Dr. Lian Choo Tan. The Minister Counselor, who came accompanied by Mrs. Sumaya Baqavi, Second Secretary (Political Affairs) from the Embassy of Singapore, was received by the International Affairs Advisory and had a brief explanation about the Brazilian Judicial Power’s system and visited the Supreme Federal Court’s Building.

Besides the presence of Minister K. Shanmugam, the hearing counted with the participation of the Ambassador of Singapore in Brazil, Dr. Choo Chiau Beng, of the Ambassador of Brazil in Singapore, Dr. Luís Fernando Serra, of the Brazilian Ambassador Dr. Francisco Mauro de Holanda, East Asia Department Director, of the Minister Counselor from the Embassy of Singapore, Dr. Lian Choo Tan, and of Dr. Jolene Tan, Vice-Director of Americas from the Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
