Chief Justice Joaquim Barbosa receives a representative from Ecuador's National Judicial Council

The Chief Justice of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF), Joaquim Barbosa, received last Wednesday (17) Paulo Rodriguez Molina, ex-President and current member of Ecuador’s National Judicial Council.

The Chief Justice of the STF, Joaquim Barbosa, received last Wednesday (17) Paulo Rodriguez Molina, ex-President and current member of Ecuador’s National Judicial Council. On the agenda, was the exchange of experiences between the Judiciary of both countries, especially related to a wide reform recently implemented in the Ecuadorian Justice.

According to Paulo Rodriguez, in Ecuador was performed a transformation process in the Justice within an 18 months term, based on a popular mandate, which concerned a previous consultation and a referendum by the population. “We did what had to be done, exchanged a lot on the management model, shifted and evaluated people, even judges, built new buildings and implemented new technologies,” he affirmed.

The major achievement of the process was the recovery of the dignity and the trustfulness of the people on the Judiciary system. “When we arrived, the Judiciary had less than 10% of the population’s trust. Now, it has 68%, and increasing. In 18 months it is a good result,” says Paulo Rodriguez.
