Chief Justice Joaquim Barbosa receives visit from the British Ambassador to Brazil

The Chief Justice of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF), Joaquim Barbosa, received today (16) a courtesy visit from the Head of the British Diplomatic Mission to Brazil, Ambassador Alexander Ellis, who came to the Supreme Court to speak about the correlations between the Brazilian Judicial Branch and British Justice.

Ambassador Ellis, who recently took office as Head of the British Embassy in Brazil, expressed his desire to promote the exchange of juridical innovations and knowledge among both nations, issue that was also addressed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

On the other hand, Chief Justice Barbosa highlighted, during the conversation, that there are several similarities between the Judicial Branches of the United Kingdom and of Brazil and that the Brazilian Justice has increasingly pursued new ideas for the improvement of democratic institutions and the strengthening of the Rule of Law.

Moreover, the British Ambassador, while expressing his first impressions of the Brazilian Justice, underlined that the transparency of the judgment sessions, especially those broadcasted by the TV Justiça, is one of the most remarkable points of the Brazilian Judicial Branch.
