STF's President is invited to attend a meeting in Ecuador in 2014

Friday, 13 December 2013

The President of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Chief Justice Joaquim Barbosa, was invited by the Constitutional Court of Ecuador’s President, Chief Justice Patricio Pazmiño, to attend a congress in Quito, Ecuador’s capital, on May of 2014. The meeting will gather judges, jurists and professors and aims to debate the accomplishments of the democratic constitutionalism all over the world.

“It is a pleasure to invite President Joaquim Barbosa to participate in this meeting that will have representatives from all the Americas, Europe and Africa,” said the Ecuadorian Chief Justice. “We will hold a meeting with Latin-American vision, thought and heart to better understand about our ways,” he affirmed stressing that the congress will be a moment to think on the constitutional-political processes in order to find out what has to be improved.

Chief Justice Patricio Pazmiño said that Ecuador sees Brazil as a great reference not only because of its size, but because of Brazilians themselves. “Brazil is a fundamental actor for politics’ democratization and for Latin-America’s Constitution and, in recent years, it has not only turned to itself, but wanted to walk with other countries,” he highlighted.

According to the Constitutional Court of Ecuador, technical visits were made to the STF to learn about the Brazilian digital process and the TV Justiça. According to Patricio Pazmiño, the intention is to continue to exchange with Brazil to strengthen ties and identify practices so as to improve the administration of the justice “and for that reason this relation between the countries is very useful.”
