Chief Justice of STF is received in Buckingham and Westminster's Palaces

This Monday (23), the Chief Justice of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF), Justice Ricardo Lewandowski, proceeded with his International agenda attending a series of appointments in London. The Chief Justice has participated on the Global Law Summit Seminar’s opening and before that he was received by a group of parliamentarians in the Westminster Palace, United Kingdom Legislative’s headquarters. In the end of the day he attended a reception in Buckingham’s Palace, with the presence of the Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip.

The Global Law Summit was organized this year to celebrate the 800th Anniversary of Magna Carta of 1215, and intends to gather, in the next two days, authorities and professionals to discuss themes related to the Law and the Judiciary. The opening, held this Monday morning, had the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State Justice, Lord Chancellor Hon Chris Grayling, the United States’ Attorney General, Eric Holder, and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OCDE)’s Secretary-General, Angel Gurria, pronouncements, among other authorities.


In the afternoon, the Justice Ricardo Lewandowski, was received by British-Brazil All-Party Parliamentary Group’s parliamentarians, which is a coalition of United Kingdom Legislative’s members that observes the relevant subjects on relationships with Brazil and stablishes contacts between the countries’ authorities. On the meeting, the functioning and the organization of the Brazilian’s Judiciary and common agenda items were discussed.

According to parliamentary Nick Hurd, the interest in Brazil has been growing on United Kingdom, because the country “has developed an influential international role" in the last 15 years, and the British had accompanied the country at a “changing environment on global relationships’ paradigms”. He has also highlighted the strong bonds between both countries on the commercial and educational sectors, and the interest on intensifying this affair. At the end, the Justice Lewandowski was invited, on behalf of the Brazilian Judicial Branch, to participate in the annual informal dialogue that was established between the two countries by the coalition.


In the end of the day, the Justice Lewandowski, with others authorities who participated at the Global Law Summit, was received in Buckingham’s Palace by the Queen Elizabeth II and by the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip. The STF’s Chief Justice had the opportunity to exchange views with the Prince regarding Brazil and its international insertion.
