The Chief Justice of the STF debates over environmental pollution control in the Boao Forum for Asia

The Chief Justice of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF), Ricardo Lewandowski, took part on Sunday (29) afternoon of Boao Forum for Asia 2015 session, an annual conference that is held in the city of Boao, located in the Chinese province of Hainan. The minister discussed the role of the judiciary of the member countries of BRICS (bloc of countries comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) in relation to environmental pollution control measures. The Chief Justice of China, Zhou Qiang, and ministers of the Supreme Courts of Russia, India and South Africa also participated on the debates.

Minister Lewandowski pointed out that the 1988 Federal Constitution devotes an entire chapter to environmental protection, recognizing the clean and balanced environment as a fundamental right of all citizens. He highlighted the measures available to the judiciary to combat and punish violations of the environmental legislation, but stressed that the preservation of nature requires all efforts, requiring a permanent mobilization and awareness of the problem of the government, business sector and civil society.


The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) - is an international non-governmental organization that since February 2001 is dedicated to promoting the development of Asian countries through regional economic integration. BFA Forum not only has gained support of Asian nations, but also from countries around the world, to promote dialogue between authorities, academics and businessmen from different nations.
