Chief Justice of the Supreme Court receives Italian minister for constitutional reforms

The Chief Justice of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF), Cármen Lúcia, received on Thursday (29/09) the Italian Minister for Constitutional Reforms and Parliament Relations, Maria Elena Boschi, and the Italian ambassador in Brazil, Antonio Bernardini. The central subject of the meeting was the Italian constitutional reform which, approved by Parliament, will be submitted to popular referendum on December 4th.

The president of the Supreme Court and the Italian minister exchanged views and information on constitutional issues in both countries and the role of constitutions in everyday of society. Maria Elena Boschi explained that the proposed reform in Italy provides for a reduction by one third of parliamentary seats, which now reaches 945, and the number of parties, addressing a greater social control over elected members. Gender equality, society's trust in Parliament, youth unemployment, inequality and social security were also topics discussed at the meeting.”
