Tuesday, August 08, 2006

The director general of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF), Sérgio Pedreira, received today (8) the visit of the Secretary General of the Constitutional Council of Mozambique, Geraldo Saranga. The objective of the meeting is to strengthen the relationship between the courts of the two nations, facilitating the exchange of experiences between the two nations. The Mozambican court has existed for three years and has great interest in the experience accumulated by the Supreme Court over nearly two centuries of existence.

For the Director General of the STF, Sérgio Pedreira, this meeting with the representative of the highest constitutional body of Mozambique is the beginning of a partnership that can develop actions aimed at a technical cooperation beneficial to both institutions. "We intend to create a repository of jurisprudence from the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) to disseminate to the entire world all the decisions of these courts," said Pedreira.

The representative of the Mozambican court emphasizes the interest in the partnership: "As a new body, we want to exchange experiences. Improve legal interaction among Portuguese-speaking countries, "Saranga said.

The meeting is part of a line developed by STF president, Minister Ellen Gracie, in order to promote a series of actions to strengthen the legal dialogue with the members of the CPLP
