Cármen Lúcia receives representatives of indigenous people in an audience to talk about on mining

The Chief Justice of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF), Cármen Lúcia, met with indigenous people of the Xikrin ethnic group of Pará to discuss processes involving environmental impacts of the Onça Puma mining project of the mining company Vale on the Catete river, which Crosses the lands of the Xikrin reservation (PA). Chiefs and other representatives of three villages reported health problems resulting from the contamination of the river and its impact on fishing, urging urgency in the solution of the case.

At the meeting, the justice compromised to bring in May to trial in the Plenary, Suspension of Limitation (SL) 933, which discusses the imposition of compensation, compensation and environmental impact management. The lawsuit will be resumed by a vote of the justice Luís Roberto Barroso in regimental aggravation.
