Justice Carmen Lúcia highlights the role of the Judiciary for the promotion of peace at the opening of the XI Maria da Penha Talks

"Violence is always unjust. It is the failure of the justice system when it prevails", thus the Chief Justice of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF) and president of the National Council of Justice (CNJ), aCarmen Lúcia, opened this Friday (18), in Salvador, Bahia, The XI Maria da Penha Journey. "I hope that this journey will be a space for judges to discuss the potentialities for a major change, which is the transformation of the Judiciary in the promotion of Peace and not just in the solution of processes. This is the new thinking of law", she said.

The meeting have as principal themes the inclusion of the Restorative Justice actions in the fight against domestic violence and assistance to victims and relatives who go through these dramas. Also on the agenda are debates on the progress and challenges of Law 11.340 / 2006 (Maria da Penha Law), which this year completes 11 years.

The president of the STF and of the CNJ also noted that, starting on Monday, will begin the eighth edition of the Justice for Peace at Home Week, when judges will make a concentrated effort to solve processes that have as their object violence against women and children due to domestic practices.
