Chief Justice of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF) denies the transfer of a Mexican appointed as leader of cartel

The Chief Justice Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF), Justice Carmen Lúcia, denied the request for the transfer of José Gonzalez-Valencia from the Regional Superintendence of the Federal Police in Ceará to the state prison system.

Pointed as leader of the Mexican drug cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), Gonzalez-Valencia, known as "Chepa", "Camaron" and "Santy", was arrested on December 27 in Aquiraz (CE) in compliance with the arrest warrant issued by the STF. The justice's decision was taken in the Extradition Request (EXT) 1505, formulated to Brazil by the United States of America, where he is accused of international drug traffick

According to the PF, Chepa was on new year's vacation with his family in Ceará after entering Brazil with a Bolivian passport.

At the end of the holiday period, the justice determined that the file of the EXT 1505 must be sent to the rapporteur of the case, Justice Celso de Mello.
