Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF) grants safe-conduct to former president Lula until final judgment of Habeas Corpus

By a majority vote, the Plenary Session of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF) granted an injunction to former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to prevent the implementation of an arrest warrant as the result of a provisional execution of the sentence until the conclusion of the Habeas Corpus (152752) trial, which will be resumed at the next plenary session, to be held on April 4th. The Habeas Corpus trial started to be heard by the court on Thursday (22) and, after the Justices decided that the request satisfies all the criteria to be discussed under the STF, the trial has been suspended and will be resumed to the merits analysis.

In HC 152752, the former president's defense seeks to avoid the provisional execution of the jail sentence imposed, in view of the confirmation by the Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region (TRF-4) of its decision to convict Lula for the crimes of passive corruption and money laundering.
