Justice Carmen Lúcia highlights actions against feminicide during the opening of the "Jornada Maria da Penha" Conference

"It is increasingly necessary that we take action both related to women as in the measures that they can be adopted, so that violence against women is not kept in silence, a silence that makes violence more and more able to persist". The statement comes from the head of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF) and the National Council of Justice (CNJ), Chief Justice Carmen Lúcia, during the opening of the "XII Jornada Maria da Penha" Conference, promoted by CNJ and held throughout this Thursday (9) and Friday (10), in the Session Room of the STF's Second Chamber. This year's main theme is women's murder on gender-based issues - the crime of feminicide - most recently typified in Brazil and whose increase in indicators has taken the press' headlines and worried the Chief Justice of STF and CNJ.
