Chief Justice of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF) receives Medal of Merit Justice & Citizenship

The head of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF) and of the National Council of Justice (CNJ), Chief Justice Dias Toffoli, received this Wednesday (24) the Medal of Merit Justice & Citizenship created to honor those who defend and fight for freedom. The award is offered by Confraria Dom Quixote and the magazine "Justice & Citizenship". The STF's Justices Marco Aurélio and Ricardo Lewandowski were also awarded with the medal.

At the ceremony, held in the Sessions Room of the STF's Second Chamber, 18 personalities who stood out in 2018 in defense of ethics, justice and citizenship rights received the Don Quixote de La Mancha and Sancho Panza trophies. "The figures of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza constitute the symbols of the values ​​we must cultivate: ethics, courage, dignity, determination, love, detachment, renunciation and loyalty to Justice, to the Law, Federal Constitution, democracy and the Republic", said Chief Justice Dias Toffoli.

The personalities that received the trophy were: the National Corregidor of Justice, Justice Humberto Martins; the Justices of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) Benedito Gonçalves, Herman Benjamin, Nefi Cordeiro, Raul Araújo Filho and Sérgio Kukina; the Justices of the Superior Labor Court (TST) João Batista Brito Pereira, Douglas Alencar and Walmir Oliveira da Costa; the Attorney General of the Union, Justice Grace Mendonça; the president of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), Claudio Lamachia; the judge of the Court of Justice of São Paulo (TJ-SP) Carlos Vieira Von Adamek; the legal director of Itaipu Binacional, Cezar Eduardo Ziliotto; the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bradesco, Carlos Alberto Rodrigues Guilherme; the president of the Academy of Letters, Sciences and Arts of the Amazon, Gaitano Antonaccio; Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of São Paulo (USP), Giselda Maria Fernandes Novaes Hironaka; and lawyer Márcio Eduardo Tenório da Costa Fernandes.
