Justice Cármen Lúcia, of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF), granted an injunction in Complaint (RCL) 32787 to restore a provision of the Resolution 14/2012 by the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) that prohibit the addition of aroma and flavor to cigarettes. The provision had been suspended by a monocratic decision of the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region (TRF-1).
In the complaint, the agency points out the increase in the consumption of cigarettes with additives between children and young people since the suspension of the decision by the court of first instance and the high cost to public health triggered by diseases related to the consumption of cigarettes.
