Justice Edson Fachin participated in the Conference of the Dialog of Constitutional Courts and the Harmony with Nature Program of the United Nations, which ocurred in the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF) on Monday (22). The event, organized by the National Council of Justice (CNJ), aims to contribute to the achievement of one of the goals of the Sustainable Development Objectives that are found in the United Nations Agenda 2030, through the promotion of dialogue between the courts.
"Constitutional jurisdiction has a key role to play in avoiding setbacks in environmental protection and in protecting the ecologically balanced environment," the Justice said. For Fachin, the current challenge on the subject of nature in society is the overcoming of the anthropocentric paradigm, which separates and differentiates human from other beings. In this context, in his view, it is the duty of constitutional courts to construct a multi-level Constitutional Law, establishing and developing a cooperative dialogue between knowledge and experience on the subject.
