Chief Justice of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF) inaugurates new STF's Bookstore

The Chief Justcie of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF), Dias Toffoli, inaugurated on Thursday (27), the new Bookstore of the STF, located at the entrance of Annex I of the Court, one of the main points of access to the Supreme Court. Toffoli recalled that the bookstore was created under the chairmanship of Justice Gilmar Mendes, with the objective of making the Quarterly Journal of Jurisprudence available to the public. Since then, the project has expanded. Today it offers a great diversity of products between published works and collections. In addition, it preserves the political and legal institutional memory of the Supreme Court, also by rescuing the life and work of the Justices, the catalog of rare works and the catalog of compositions of the Plenary. The president highlighted the books in honor of the Justices Marco Aurélio and Celso de Mello, "who contribute to reconstruct the recent history of the Court."

Toffoli also pointed out that since its creation on November 24, 2008, the bookstore has donated more than 70.000 copies to public institutions, university libraries, and state and judicial branches. Nearly 47.000 printed books have been sold, and, since June 2017, more than 80.000 digital books have been downloaded.

The bookstore currently has more than 13 thousand registered customers, who receive information via e-mail about the available launches. "Therefore, it is a social enterprise, not for profit and an important channel of communication of the STF with society," said Chief Justice Dias Toffoli. In addition to the Chief Justice, the Justices Luiz Fux and Alexandre de Moraes attended the inauguration.

The products are available for free download in different formats, which facilitates transportation and storage by the user. Among the available formats, the president stressed the audiobook, an important accessibility tool. "It is justice within reach of all," he said. "All this represents the crowning of the STF Bookstore, which for more than 10 years has been delivering high quality institutional materials, making an invaluable contribution to society."

The STF Bookstore's mission is to disseminate the jurisprudence and institutional memory of the Court. It offers free digital content and printed publications that can be purchased by the general public. In addition, it markets court souvenirs like pocket Constitutions, postcards, notepads and calendars. The new bookstore will also be the end point of the guided visits to the Court.
