Justices elect judges for National Council of Justice's counselor positions

In an administrative session held on Wednesday (7), the Justices of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF) elected Judge Luiz Fernando Tomasi Keppen, of the Paraná Court of Justice (TJ-PR), with 11 votes, and state judge Mário Augusto Figueiredo de Lacerda Guerreiro, from the Rio Grande do Sul Court of Justice (TJ-RS), with 8 votes, for the vacancies of members of the National Council of Justice (CNJ) destined to court (TJ) judge and state judge. In voting for the state judge seat, Marcelo Semer (TJ-SP) received 2 votes and Amini Haddad (TJ-MT) 1 vote.

The terms of the current board members expire on October 10 and it is up to the Supreme Court to indicate the names, pursuant to article 103-B, items IV and V, of the Federal Constitution. The election was made based on the list of eligible candidates registered for the two vacancies, by public notice issued by the STF in July. The resumes received were delivered for review by the Justices, to allow the choice of names in the administrative session. The nomination procedure is regulated by STF Resolution 503/2013. The elected names must be approved by the Federal Senate.
