Dias Toffoli participates in meeting of Chief Justices of Constitutional Courts of Latin America

The Chief Justice of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF), Dias Toffoli, attends the 25th Annual Meeting of Justices and Chief Justices of Constitutional Courts and Rooms of Latin America in Cartagena, Colombia.

The event, which will take place from September 18th to 22nd, brings together the main authorities of Constitutional Law in the region, as well as the Chief Justice and Deputy Chief Justice of the German Constitutional Court.

“It is an opportunity to exchange knowledge regarding common challenges to justice today, such as the defense of the Democratic Rule of Law and freedom of expression in the Digital Age,” said STF's international advisor, Joel Sampaio.

Chief Justice Dias Toffoli will be present, on Wednesday (18), at the opening ceremony alongside Colombian President Iván Duque Marquez, as well as the Chief Justice of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, Eduardo Ferrer MacGregor.

On Friday (20), the Chief Justice composes the panel “The changing role of the constitutional judge in the last 25 years - Between legalism and activism”, together with the Chief Justices of the Constitutional Courts of Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and the DEputy Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court of Germany.

On Saturday, the Chief Justice of the Federal Supreme Court will have a session reserved for Justices, with case studies and presentation of relevant judgments of the region's constitutional courts on freedom of press and expression.
