Winning practices of the 16th Innovare are awarded at the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF)


The Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF) hosted, on the morning of Tuesday (3), the ceremony to award the Innovare 2019 Award to the winning practices of this 16th edition. The award is given annually to the categories Court, Judge, Advocacy, Justice and Citizenship, Public Defender's Office and Public Prosecutor's Office, in addition to the Outstanding award. 660 practices competed in the six categories. Of these, 12 were selected for the final phase.

The award ceremony was held at the STF's White Room, in the presence of more than 200 guests among the participants, STF justices and other Superior Courts, in addition to judges, lawyers and members of the Public Prosecution Service and the Public Defender's Office.


The award of the first category of Innovare 2019 was announced by the chief justice of the STF, Dias Toffoli. The winning practice in the Court category is the initiative "Trampo Justo" (Fair Job), held by the Court of Justice of São Paulo. The project promotes the autonomy of adolescents about to turn 18, when they need to leave the public shelters where they live. The project seeks job openings and scholarships for these young people and has a partnership with rapper Dexter. Among the 48 practices that competed in this category, the vice-champion was the initiative "TSE against Fake News", coordinated by Justice Rosa Weber, president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

Among the 100 projects enrolled in the Judge category, the winner was "Magistracy for all", authored by judge Rodrigo Tellini de Aguirre Camargo, from São Paulo, which provides a free course of qualification and preparation for the contest of entry into the judiciary, aimed at low-income citizens. The prize was handed over by Minister Luis Roberto Barroso.

The category Public Prosecutor had 166 registered projects, having as winner the project Olhos da Mata - Coibindo o Desmatamento Ilegal em Tempo Próximo ao Real (Eyes of the Woods - Curbing Illegal Deforestation in Near to Real Time), held in Itiquira (MT). The trophy was handed over by Minister Cármen Lúcia, in recognition of the MP-MT's partnership with satellite monitoring institutions that issue alerts about deforestation actions in the region.

Public Defender's Office, Advocacy and Justice, and Citizenship

Justice Alexandre de Moraes handed over the award to the practice "Training and Information to Combat Obstetric Violence" of Campo Grande (MS), winner in the Public Defender's category. Chosen from among 78 applicants, the initiative works to build a network of women's services to avoid inadequate, obsolete, invasive and violent obstetric procedures.

In the Advocacy category, Justice Gilmar Mendes handed over the award to the Innocence Project initiative, developed in São Paulo, with volunteer lawyers to act in the identification and reversal of final convictions of innocent people, arrested for errors in the criminal justice system.

The project "Two cultures and one nation", held in Boa Vista (RR), was the big winner in the Justice and Citizenship category. The initiative seeks to welcome and facilitate the relationship between Venezuelan refugee children and other students. The initiative competed with another 167 and the authors received the Innovare 2019 from the retired justice of STF Sepúlveda Pertence.

Human Rights

This year, the winning practice in the Highlight category is called "Resocialization in the Prison System", held in the city of Curitibanos (SC), which was chosen among 419 practices conducted on the theme of Human Rights. The award was handed over by the retired justice of the STF Ayres Britto, who heads the Superior Council of the Innovare Institute.

Launched in 2004, the Innovare Award seeks to encourage and disseminate the adoption of practices that contribute to the modernization and improvement of jurisdictional provision in the country. It is considered the greatest award of the legal area in Brazil, with the implementation of thousands of projects that have benefited millions of Brazilians.

The initiative is from Innovare Institute, with the institutional partnership of the National Council of Justice (CNJ), of the Brazilian Magistrates Association (AMB), National Association of Public Prosecution Members (Conamp), the National Council of Public Prosecutors (CNMP), National Association of Public Defenders and Defenders (Anadep), Association of Federal Judges (Ajufe), Federal Council of the OAB, National Association of Republic Prosecutors (ANPR), National Association of Labor Justice Magistrates (Anamatra) and the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, through the National Secretariat of Justice, with the support of the Globo Group.
