Dias Toffoli highlights advances in the fight against corruption at the Office of the Comptroller General forum

The Chief Justice of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF), Dias Toffoli, participated, on Tuesday (3), in the opening of the forum "The control in the fight against corruption", organized by the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU). In the solemnity, Toffoli presented the progress of tools to combat corruption in Brazil, such as the modernization of criminal legislation and criminal procedure and joint programs between the Powers.

"The country has made great strides in strengthening the control systems needed to combat corruption and punish those who practice it," said the chief justiceof the STF. The creation of the Laws on Transparency, Access to Information, Anti-Corruption and Combating Criminal Organizations, according to Toffoli, were some of the actions that increased transparency - "our best weapon in the fight against corruption" - and modernized the investigative technologies and the forms of repression of this type of conduct.

Speaking of the relevance of Tuesday's forum, intended for reflection and discussion on crucial aspects for the control and fight against corruption, Toffoli pointed as the way to effectively address this problem: institutional maturation, legislative evolution and independent, but integrated, action of state defense agencies and public property. "In this way, the Judiciary will continue to act firmly in the fight against corruption," he concluded.
