Registrations for hearing on data control on the Internet end on Friday (31)


The registration period for those interested in participating in the public hearing that the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF) will hold to discuss the control of user data by Internet providers abroad ends this Friday (31). The hearing, convened by Justice Gilmar Mendes, is scheduled for February 10th. Registrations should be made through the e-mail The interested parties must indicate the points they intend to address and the qualification of the specialist or entity that will be represented.


Justice Gilmar Mendes is the rapporteur of the Declaratory Action of Constitutionality (ADC) 51, filed by the Federation of Associations of Information Technology Companies (Assespro Nacional). The object is the validity of the Judicial Assistance Agreement signed between the governments of Brazil and the United States. This agreement, enacted by Federal Decree 3.810/2001, allows access to data provided by international providers for criminal investigations involving persons, assets and values located outside Brazil. According to the association, however, several Brazilian courts request information from Brazilian companies affiliated with the providers.
