2nd Chamber authorizes extradition of Colombian accused of drug trafficking in the U.S.


The Second Chamber of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court (STF) unanimously granted the extradition (EXT 1613) of Colombian Guillermo Amaya Ñungo, requested by the U.S. government, where he is responsible for the alleged crimes of criminal organization and international drug trafficking in the state of Texas and the district of Columbia. The trial took place in the virtual session that ended on the 14th.

Ñungo has been a preventive prisoner in Fortaleza since September of last year, in the Superintendence of the Federal Police of Ceará. The reporter of the action, Justice Edson Fachin, stated that the general requirements are configured, foreseen in the Migration Law (Law 13.445/2017), and specific, contained in the Extradition Treaty celebrated between Brazil and the United States (Decree 55.750/1965).
