Federal Supreme Court

The Federal Supreme Court (STF) is the highest body of the Judiciary Branch and the protection of the Constitution is incumbent upon it, as defined by art. 102 of the Federal Constitution (CF).

The Federal Supreme Court is composed by eleven native Brazilian Justices (art. 12, § 3º, IV, of the CF/88), chosen among citizens with more than 35 and less than 65 years of age, with Remarkable legal knowledge and unblemished reputation (art. 101 of the CF/88), nominated by the President of the Republic after the approval of the election by the absolute majority of the Federal Senate.
